Be the hero of your own adventure

August 1, 2014

We all have our own story about our life that contains lots of dramas, plots, sub plots, leading ladies, heroes, wicked witches and the like.  However do you view yourself as the hero, the victim, the understudy, the observer or perhaps an adventurer?

We will all face challenges and obstacles, grief and loss, that’s the deal, no one escapes this, it is the condition called life. How you greet all of this is going to determine how you get through it and continue in life either wiser or damaged carrying a whole ton of baggage around with you.

It was Joseph Campbell that said;
'The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty 'yes' to your adventure.'

Let me ask you:

How do you view your life?
What’s the story you tell yourself about your life?
What would be different for you if you viewed your life as an adventure instead?

What is it that you need to say 'yes' to in your life?

By viewing your life as an adventure you keep the doors of possibility open for new and exciting things to happen to and for you. In times when there is a lack of certainty, it is far more liberating to keep the spirit of adventure about your life rather
than get locked into responses that carry fear and dread.
Obviously you know how you feel when you are fearful and realise that this feels very different in your body to the type of feelings that you have when you feel brave, confident and full of excitement - AND YES adventurous!

Ask yourself:
What heroes inspire and delight you?

What is it about them that you admire?
When they were facing their nemesis what was it they did to survive and win?

Every adventure needs a hero…imagine for a moment being the hero you admire, really try it on, how does that feel, look, how do you breathe, how does your spine feel different, your legs your face?

Notice what’s different for you here physically in your body, keep a hold of it and try it on like a new coat, walk around in it, get comfortable in it.

So, when you imagine being the type of hero that you admire, what’s different for your life when you view it from this perspective?
What type of energy do you have here?

What is the most important belief that you have about yourself here?

What do you believe is possible from this place?

"What we do in life echoes in eternity."
Maximus Decimus Meridius - The film Gladiator

What do you want your life to stand for and mean?
What is the legacy that you offer to eternity?

Just like Maximus declaring who he really is in the movie clip, what is it that you need to do to declare yourself to the world as the hero of your own adventure, to make a stand and tell the world that you are here

What will you now name the story of your life, now that you have the oscar winning role as your own?

Take this heroic energy and treat every day as an adventure, full of possibility with the promise of new and exciting delights. Know that you are equipped with all of the essential qualities of a hero, to face any demons that you may encounter along the way and have a heart full of bravery, passion, courage and love for your
life...

Journey well
